Title: Calling all the musicians!
Post by: DrBlowThingsUp on December 01, 2011, 05:02:23 PM
(sorry to copy this thread from the Frost* forums, I hope I'm not annoying anyone...)

Shooting up the town, boys...

Nevermind that, to business!

Sorry if you've heard this before, but I recently put together an albums worth of songs from my dailyjams. All the songs have been handpicked for juiciness and polished to a lovely ripe sheen, and are ready for re-recording whenever I have the necessary resources.

All I need now is people to play the songs! Since the only credit I am really concerned about on this album is the writer and producer, I have decided to forego(spelling?) the traditional standpoint of playing all the instruments myself and I am appealing to other beautiful and talented musicians to put the audio down. I'll then be sending the tracks off to be mixed by our very own Mouse, before attempting to get the album released on iTunes and Spotify.

I thought a prog rock forum would be a brilliant place to advertise for this because prog musicians are generally considered to be quite adept at their instruments. At least that's what I hear...

So here is a link to the track listing and some demo recordings of the album tracks, and I'll do another post after this detailing what I still need, and if there's something there you fancy doing, then bagsy it!

http://soundcloud.com/rob-rideout-music

I'll be doing most of the communications and audio transfers by dropbox, so you won't have to travel up and down the country, all the work can usually be done in your own home. I'll be collecting DI tracks for bass and guitar and re-amping them myself, and in some cases MIDI files for drums and piano (but if you have facilities to record yourself, by all means, do!). If you have means of recording vocals, then let me know and you can do some wailing

There's loads of styles available, so there should be something for everyone!

No spoons required, then

I suppose it could go down as alternative percussion? :P

It's mainly what we are capable of in these parts, though Catherine plays a mean ukelele. It wasn't mean when she got it, but she trains them well

Pedro is ace with the spoons.

I very much like Time Will Make Fools Of Us all sir. It has a cinematic feel to it which I really got into. The same goes for Keep Calm and Carry On. I like the vocals and the mix of styles throughout the whole collection.

As much as I would like to stick my hand up to help out mate, I genuinely don't have a spare moment for the next few months at the very least. Once Shineback is finished, I have to jump right back into the Tinyfish world.

I will however put out the word among my circle of friends about your stuff. If I get any feedback, I'll let you know sir.  :)

It's ok, I REALLY appreciate the getting the word out :D

And yeah, I keep hearing about Pedro's spoon chops... Maybe I'll write a secret track which is just like a samba with spoons. We could have teaspoons, tablespoons, soup spoons, the lot!

Haha! I read that as 'Ladies?' And then suddenly got to proofreading all my post to make sure I hadn't been gender specific and left anyone out by mistake.

Yes, ladles can be those MASSIVE drums that go off at the beginning of every bar :D

There are no ladies in Prog.

Except in Finland.

This one sets up a better punchline if you use 'wild' instead of 'mean'.

Wild? It was absolutely livid...

("Look, the production on that album was FANTASTIC")

Sorry to revive such a long dead thread but...

I'm nearly there. I just need a few more people on board and I know you're all lovely over here, right? :P

So all I need now is a drummer for Time Makes Fools of Us All,
A guitarist for Attack, Attack!
A Bassist for I and Time Makes Fools of us All
and some singers for Please don't Let Me Go, The Bird That Never Flew, I, Shut Up and Drive, and Attack Attack!

I've got some really good musicians on board already and I'm really excited about this project picking up speed. Once march is done, I'll be collecting audio and doing my adminny stuff. Really looking forward to this!

if anyone wants to help, drop me a PM, or email me at Rob.rideout@btopenworld.com
Thankyou, kind sirs and madams!

I will have a listen when I get a moment to myself (which will most likely be some time at the weekend) and I hereby volunteer my services.

Will have a listen when I get home. As I'm sure you know I play bass and I can sing in a low register.

Yeah, there's no rush. I shouldn't be seriously collecting audio until april/may, at which point I'll have to send the heavies round.

'Ere, where's my tracks, you slayg!

It's at times like this I wish I was even a LITTLE bit threatening.

But I just want to get a complete idea of who's doing what by the end of march, so I can make my excel file look nice and neat :)

Thanks for indulging me!

You're too thin to be considered threatening.  :P  It's like being threatened by Ramsay - there's just no effect...

I must have a look at the tracks to see if there's anything I could add. I could always just drop a Hammond organ into some of it when I get to mix the stuff.  :D

I just can't find it in my heart to threaten you properly, Mouse.

Maybe we could coralle (spelling?) all the tall people, and just stand intimidatingly around Mouse. And look down upon him.

Ash is a lot more scary than most of you.

I just can't find it in my heart to threaten you properly, Mouse.

Oh, you'll find a way. Everyone always does.

Ah, but Leon could threaten me. If he wanted to. He'd probably just skip that step and go straight to committing great horrors upon my person.
