Title: Imaginary Album: Insert Title Here by Make Somthing Up
Post by: Simon on July 03, 2012, 01:32:59 PM
I believe that many people know this album (some by heart) and I'm sure you all agree that it's hard to imagine an album quite like it. There literally is something for everybody on this record and although a good number of you will have been listening to it since they were children and are probably quite bored with it now, others continue to find new and interesting things each time they encounter it.

As for the band that made it, where can I possibly find the words to describe them? Few groups mean so much to so many and the individual members are probably household names all over the world. Strangely, everybody appears to have their own personal connection with them that changes depending who you talk to which only adds to their personal charm.

Let's here it for The Imaginary Band.

It's too loud.

It's not as loud as you first think. Especially track 7.

Track 7 is a cover of 4:33.

Or track 11 from Disc 1 of Happiness Is The Road.

On my second listen now... it's incredibly derivative of pretty much everything else I've heard.

Listen to Track 7 again.

Totally overrated pa(r)p I give it -0 but only because that's an imaginary number.

Post by: AmazingWilf on July 03, 2012, 02:09:52 PM
In fact, 0 is the only number that could be described as both real and imaginary. Though generally it isn't.

My opinion of the album is the opinion of the people I want to be accepted by, but reworded to make it sound like I thought of it on my own.

The band would be proud of you Thea.

I'm glad about that... I've got a thing for the keyboard player. Not that one, the other one they had.

Didn't the first one die?

I will say what I think and then be slightly embarrassed that the guitarist's brother turns out to be a regular poster on the Fishtank. Not enough to change my opinon though.

If I can remember where I put them.  Might need to buy another set, just in case.

I wasn't impressed.
Especially by the one who didn't die.

Are you lot just being daft or are you reviewing the album that is made up of all the songs that you can't get out of your head this week? Earworms or whatever they are called.

Silly me, why do I bother even asking.

My most recent imginary album starts with 2112 Overture. In stereo and almost in full. There is a bit of 'Dead But Dreaming' by Green Carnation in there before some 'Pink Beatles' from AALucassen.
Pretty good all things considered.

I count my blessings every day that I don't get anything by Agadoo lodged inside my skull. There are medical charities for those with the worst affliction.

It has John Jowitt on bass, and Mr Mitchell and at least one Godfrey feature on it somewhere.

The Steven Wilson 5.1 Mix is rather good.

I like Godfrey Features - I'm trying to find one for my garden.

Two keytars for every theremin and the banjo player has an accordion solo!

And the keytar with the mandolin patch sounded superb.

I'm not so sure this album is as good as I rembered. In addition, it has entirely too many elephants on the re-issue.

Post by: A James on July 17, 2012, 02:07:28 PM
Too many elephants, you say ?

Would you care to rephrase that ?

I haven't thought of this album for a long time which is a shame. Wish I'd thought about it sooner.

This album was the soundtrack to my misspent youth, and never fails to transport me back in time. The achingly perfect guitar solos, the atmospheric keyboards, the precise drumming and the overwhelming sense of restraint which pervades the whole thing strike a deep resonance in me.

You appear to still be here, though.

I have always hated the annoying click at the beginning of Track 4.

Title: Re: Imaginary Album: Insert Title Here by Make Somthing Up
Post by: Briefly Icky Giantess on July 17, 2012, 07:26:49 PM
It's not so annoying if you know the story behind it, though.  It was when the lead singer's false teeth leapt out and hit the microphone as she was going through her pre-song facial contortions, which was her way of limbering up and making sure her voice was on top form.
Ever the trouper, and aware that studio time was money, she gamely continued with the song and delivered what many reckon to be her finest ever vocal performance. Sadly, as she was run over by a no. 6 bus as she left the studio, so it was also her last ever recording. The other members of the band, heartbroken, insisted that that clip should be used, click and everything.

Thanks. That also explains why the lyrics on Track 4 don't match those printed on the sleeve.
