This sounds like it's going to be a great show. I'll see if I can make this one as it's within driving distance for me.

I might need a lot of help on the merch stand ;) ;)

If all the other festivals I've worked at are anything to go by they rarely have merch that can be set up and sold by the bands. If merch is available then it's usually handed over to in-house staff and a concession fee is paid on anything sold - usually 25%.

I've recovered from the Brain Hurty Syndrome enough to report that the adventure doesn't look possible for me. Gigantic apologies all round.  :'(  However, this means you must all have more of a good time to make up for my absence - Nellie and Catherine, you'll still have to celebrate three Birthdays you know!

I think we are being wimps and only turning up for the day Guy. Usually I am beholden to my wife or our bass player for a lift to and from a gig 'cos I can't drive.  :-[ ;)

This is going to be fantastic as I'll get to see Manning play twice in two months (The Peel and CRF). Yay!

Unfortunately, this goon here buggered up somewhere in the transfer process and the image came out slightly faded. Doesn't matter though! It looks like one of them purposefully aged/distressed designs and they're fashionable (apparently). I'm more than happy with it.  :)

Once upon a time I went to Holland to see Marillion at Bospop. I went by myself but wanted to meet up with other Marillion fans so posted a message on The Web Holland forum. I was told to look our for a particular flag. Perhaps we should think about getting some kind of flag with the burning hand printed on it and then that could be a central congregation point for those who want to meet up? Near a bar, preferably.  ;D

I have always had a problem with knowing when to speak and when to stay quiet.  So, I made it my business to find out.  I started with the local religious leaders who shook their heads sadly and said that they did not know.  I worked my way up through the religious societies and spoke to the Archbishop of Canterbury and the Pope, but neither knew the answer to this vexed question.  I then tried the great religious leaders of Islam and Judaism, but I got no luck.

Next, I travelled to India and the far East and asked the great religious leaders there.  But still none of these great leaders could give me an answer.  Then, whilst wandering in the foothills on the Himalayas, a shaman told me of a hermit who lived in Tibet was reputed to know the answer to the question.

After spending three years getrting a visa, I travelled to Tibet to find the hermit.  The hermit lived in a remote valley with no electricity, roads or telephones.  I had to walk for three weeks over various mountain passes until I got to the bottom of the hermit's valley.

There, I met with the hermit's assistant, who told me that the hermit only spoke in the local dialect, and no one other than me would be allowed to be present at the meeting.  I then spent 6 months learning to speak the hermit's language.  The next bombshell was that I had to prove that I was devout enough to meet the wise man.  So, I spent another 6 months alone in contemplation.

Evenually the hermit summoned me to his hut.  I walked barefoot for three days up the valley where I finally met a very old man.  Next, I had to wait 2 weeks for the moon and planets to align themselves into the best position before he would consent to talk to me.

On the fateful day I approached the hut, not kowing if the hermit would be able to give me the answer to my question – would he know when to say something and when to stay quiet?

I was permitted three questions.  I asked the first question: “Do you know the answer to the question of when to say something and when to be quiet?”  The hermit answered that he did.  I asked my next question “Are you the only person in the world who knows the answer to the question?”.  The hermit answered that he was.

Now the big one – I asked the question “Can you tell me when to say something and when to stay quiet?”

The hermit replied “I'm afraid that I cannot.  You see, now is a time to stay quiet”.

I have bought a flag which I'll take to Cambridge.  It is not a Tinyfish flag, but it was cheap, and unlikely to be duplicated.  It is red with a white horse.

Wizard's Fist? Is that like Fiddler's Elbow? Or Bishop's Finger? (all of which sound like unpleasant perversions.)

Yes, I've got an Ikea cheese grater - 2 different grating "lids" for fine and coarse grating, and a plastic lid to keep your gratings lovely and fresh. Genius indeed.

Off course to cut cheese properly you should use a cheese cutter, a Norwegian invention.

I'm going to see Tinyfish at the Cambridge rock festival.
I was thinking about putting my new pop up tent in the boot, I can then set up a little shop inside and no one will know. We can stick Rob's flag on the roof and sell Sarah's knitted cakes too.
Plan?

Ladies and Gents. We've been told that we are (currently) onstage at 3.40pm and will have an 80 min set. IMO the reason we have been put on at that time might be down to poor old Leon being left handed and this is the most convenient time to swap the kits over.

I could be wrong...

Right, apparently it is a 2 hour drive from Cambridge to Leamington, so I am now planning to be in Cambridge for the Saturday morning (after being in Leamington for the Friday evening), will stay til the end of the Tinyfish set (please don't overrun) and then head back to Leamington for the doors to open at 7 for Pendragon and Fish.  Then back to Cambridge for Sunday morning, see Breathing Space and Touchstone, then back to Leamington, probably in time only for the Fish set.

Should get myself an 'I'm with this nutter' tshirt, with an arrow pointing upwards.

Currently at home 'cheating' at rehearsals by playing along to the Poland multi track recording. All I have to do is turn down all my guitars, synth and vocal tracks and play along with my live rig. I have no idea why I didn't think of this earlier. It's like prog Karaoke.

Simples.

There are band rehearsals Sunday and Monday and I'm even remembering most of the lyrics which is a minor miracle. Wonders will never cease.

We are on at 3.40pm it says on my little bit of official paper (first band of the afternoon session due to the fact that we have the only leftie drummer at the event but that's cool, more time to party like it's 1999 afterwards  ;D)

Just to let everyone know that the band will be aiming to arrive for around Noon on the day which should give us all plenty of time to have a look about and a natter to everyone before we have to climb upon stage and do fishy things.

If you get a chance to check out Dave Kilminster and Murray Hockridge on the main stage at 1.45pm, then do.

I gather there's quite a good beer tent to check out as well, with lots of different beers. Shame I'm driving.   :'(

And I've just noticed that although Jefferson Starship have pulled out, they're being replaced by Uriah Heep.

I went down to the festival to see Think Floyd this evening. It started raining as I was driving over at about 7.15, and continued raining heavily all evening.  I left at about 10.15; by that time the floor in the main stage tent was about half an inch deep in water. It's still raining hard now; it will continue raining hard until about 8 tomorrow morning. There is a bit of sunshine forecast tomorrow afternoon and then light rain showers on Saturday.

I am *so* glad I'm not camping there - I squelched my way through the camping area on my way back to my car this evening.

I would recommend wellies, full waterproof gear and umbrellas for Saturday!

On a more positive note, there's a splendid selection of beers there -note that it's on a token system so you buy your silver tokens at the far end of the bar for £1.50 each and then exchange them for beer at the barrels a bit further up the bar. (You can also have lager or cider if you must!)

There are also some food stalls there which smelt rather good; in particular the Indian one, so we can have a curry after Tinyfish!

based on past experience, avoid anything that comes with rice at a festival. After Reading, I once had to break my journey to a gig, to occupy a random station toilet, staring at my knees and praying for death.

Julie and I decided Not to camp and to retire to the local Travelodge (thats soooo rock 'n roll..), but half the band are going to try the open life under sheets and good luck to them all - bless 'em!

Well they will play their little hearts out before weathering the storms no doubt.

b) so that after we've mugged Aggie, we can watch the Poland DVD.

Absolutely top notch performance guys in adverse conditions.  I think that Rob, in particular, had the crowd captivated.

David and I stayed in the CRS tent to the very end.  The sound system varied from reasonable to downright awful.  I think that you guys benefitted from a proper sound check.  For example, for the first three songs from Solstice, we could barely hear Emma's singing.

I have uploaded some pictures to my flickr account. See below for details. More to come ...

Fab photos as ever Bo, many, many thank yous sir from all of us in the band.

For those of you who were there and for those who couldn't make it down, we really enjoyed the show. It would be safe to say that the sound/backstage crew were wonderful people. The sound was never going to be perfect as there was very little time to soundcheck. As has been mentioned before, we were luckier than most as we were able to test levels for a little longer than most due to our slot being just after the one hour afternoon break (yay for us).

The other good bit of news was that our Agnieszka had brought with her from Poland, a small batch of DVD's and CD's for the crowd to chow down upon, most of which were snapped up in a few moments. We made a priority of giving DVD's to all those who were at the show and had pre-ordered. Suffice to say that, Nellie was kept busy throughout the afternoon.

For the rest of you that have pre ordered, I'm told that the main bulk for our stock will be arriving in England in the next 10 days or so but we'll keep you informed as to when they arrive.

The heat on stage was stifling which meant that within three minutes, we were all sweating like pigs. However, as it was Jim's last gig with Tinyfish as a resident of the UK (he's leaving the UK for good to live in Sweden), none of us minded too much as we wanted to give him a good send off.

Which I hope, we did.  :)

Highlights of the show for me were Wide Awake At Midnight; easily the best rendition we made of it thus far and the end section of the song was a real 'hairs standing up on your neck' moment. Motorville also rocked like a bastard.

As the last moments of All Hands Lost died in our ears and we wandered off stage, I looked back out over the stage and smiled to myself, remembering that it was only two years ago, we had played our first ever live show to a very select number of people yet now here we were playing to the crowd at the Cambridge Rock Festival. It makes my head spin a little be honest. Not that I'm complaining mind.  ;)

I'd forgotten the bog roll - it was artfully placed on a microphone stand.  I have no idea way - I felt sure that someone would refer to it.  It was obvious there especially for Tinyfish because it was gone for DeeExpus - the next band up.

He was there, and somehow managed to do the gig having broken a to two days before!

He had also agreed for all the bands that day to use his kit, so we were a bit wary about letting Leon near it, but all went well, and nothing was broken. Apart from his toe, a couple of days before. Which I've already mentioned.

In other news, I have swine flu.  Anyone who shook my hand/kissed me over the weekend should beware...

I missed Focus, as I was dashing cross-country, yet again...managed it, though.  So over the weekend I saw

Friday - Jump
Saturday - Emerald Sky, Mother Black Cap, Crimes Of Passion, Kilminster & Hockridge, Tinyfish, Pendragon and Fish
Sunday - Sacred Heart, Jeavestone, Morph, Breathing Space, Touchstone, The Reasoning (1 song) and Fish

and vaguely listened to Phoenix and Airrace

and managed 430 miles.

I think it was worth it.  But next time I go to a Festival I want all that backstage access stuff so I can get setlists without having to go through hoops  ::)

I thought the set was excellent and certainly kept the crowd entertained on a number of levels - I would have thought you should have sold stuff to a lot of new faces on the basis of that performance.  Sounded fine to me, and I shall reflect these good words in many more (many, many more) good words in the review (which I am having written up by a 14 year old).

Thanks, Leon... is that why you were sweating like a pig? How long is the incubation period?

Hope you feel much better soon - and I shall be more careful who I kiss next time!

Yeah, good gig, if lacking in any sort of subtlety & finesse on my part.  The onstage sound wasn't great, but pity poor old Focus - they had a torrid time up there.

In other news, I have swine flu.  Anyone who shook my hand/kissed me over the weekend should beware...

Thank God I wasn't swayed by your belly-button piercing!

No-one can tell you that you need to get out more sir.  :D It was good to see so many familiar faces in the crowd and to meet so many new faces too.

Brilliant pic, UB! I've yet to wade through all the photos and videos, but I can't wait to do so. I'll attempt at some point tonight, hopefully. So glad that the gig went so well. No doubt I would have brought torrential rain with me if I'd managed to turn up...  ;)

I am quite speechless with a bizarre mixture of laughter and pride! Of all the things I ever dreamt I might become the posterboy for, spankingblog.com was not really near the top of the list!

You will be happy to know that you stardom is now truely international. The following sites have pointed to this photo as well.

And Simon had better not refer to "the big red arse" otherwise the Tinyfish site will also be targetted.  Or perhaps it's a new genre - S&M Rock.

I thought Slipknot had been doing that for years judging by their stage get-ups...  ;)

I missed this, I missed The Reasoning at the Fish convention and all because I spend the weekend at Brands Hatch taking photos of fast bikes and getting some 12x8 prints of my previous bike photos autographed

I was indeed very happy especially at the casual way I managed to get Autographs from Troy Corser, Leon Haslam, Leon Camier, James Ellison and Broc Parkes without a queue or pit walk insight.  Also got to meet the legend that is Giacomo Agostini 8)

Fantastic blog Bo and a particularly good shot of Robert as the Voodoo Bluesman character during Motorville.

The Pagodas one is just "The Scientist" and the Army guy from Fly Like a Bird is probably Captain Oblivion.
