2  Tinyfish Wibble / Other Bands / NOW SOLD: Spare Ticket for Steven Wilson - Cardiff, Friday 13th March on: February 28, 2015, 05:57:42 PM
**Now Sold - thanks all**

Hi all,

I've got a spare ticket for Steven Wilson at St David's Hall Cardiff on Friday 13th March.  I bought two but Mrs JB has decided that she's seen him once and that's enough (I know...!) so there's one up for grabs.

Row J in the Stalls, quite close to the front I believe and two rows back from MikeEvs, so bring some elastic bands and we'll have some fun....  Grin

Looking for face value (£32.50) Promise I won't eat popcorn or squeal like a girl at Guthrie's solos*

I think I get an email here when a PM comes in but safest is to contact me via Twitter on @jonboyes or jon@jonboyes.com via email.

First come first served... If no takers here by the end of next week I'll blast it out on Twitter but I'd like to give the regulars here first dibs.

Ta!

*actually I might...

p.s. Mods, Rob said it was OK to post this...

5  Tinyfish Wibble / Other Bands / Rook (another post-Freefall band) on: June 04, 2011, 03:28:26 PM
Hi guys 'n' gals

Had some requests for some old Rook tracks so have uploaded these to my Soundcloud page:

http://soundcloud.com/jonboyes

There are 12 tracks. The originals from the "Judge & Jury" EP and a load of others unreleased as yet (including a cover of Turn it On Again).  Rook was a band put together after Freefall which included Simon Godfrey, Julian Garner (from Kick) and myself. It's far lighter than Freefall and you can tell that we were heavily influenced by It Bites (especially from the endings...) Wink

Unfortunately Simon spontaneously combusted before we could commit him to tape so these recordings feature Carl Sampson (ex- Casual Affair) on drums, though Simon's influence can be heard throughout most of the tracks and in the lyrics to Run to Seed and London Life.

Enjoy

Cheers Mr Guitar. Thanks for dredging up some nightmares and some really good memories too!  Cool

Hehe Smiley  It must have been 10 years since I heard those.  Jem has added some track comments on Soundcloud Smiley  Feel free to chip in.....

I've made these downloadable should anyone like to inflict them upon their personal digital devices..!

Hello guys n gals.  Sorry to resurrect this thread but hey, guess what I found lurking in an old mates cassette box.....

Yes, that's right it's some bona-fide Freefall tracks.  I had lost mine after multiple house moves and it would seem so had everyone else in the band <cough>! But a visit last week to the UK saw me hook up with my old mate Julian Garner. We were in a band called Rook together with Simon post-Freefall. I will master up some Rook tracks this week and upload those to my page too. Very different, lighter more It-Bites(y) feel to Rook.

It would appear I had provided Julian with a cassette copy of some Freefall stuff back in 1994. So we spun it onto CD, I've squashed it and poked it with Reaper and various plugins and uploaded to my Soundcloud page just for you lucky people.  So finally you can all see where we all emerged from and probably remark, thank god you all moved on from that stage...!

Warning, this is not for audiophiles. A 20 year old recording off a 17 year old cassette doesn't sound the most pristine thing. It has some lovely wow & flutter in parts too just to add to that analogue authenticity.  But it gives you the essence of Freefall Mk2, the pomp, the grandeur, the overuse of bloody reverb....grr... Wink

So.... without further ado.  Ladies and Gentlemen, may I present to you Freefall from 1991. May God bless her and all who sail in her:

When the Heart Beats Faster
Play for Voices
Surface Tension
Hellstate (the original heavy version - not the one on 'Thrown')
Freefall

Enjoy!

In a very roundabout way (via a cassette to USB player that Bet bought me for my birthday) I've re-discovered a band that I loved back in the day. They were called Kick and fronted by an incredibly talented couple of South West London blokes (bassist Richard Fuell  and keyboard player Julian Garner). Kick were (for me) one of the most underrated bands on the prog scene back in the late 80s/early 90s. The band never really made it out of the pubs and clubs of the capital before disbanding but in the handful of gigs they did perform, they constantly blew the doors off every venue they played. To make matters worse, they were incredibly nice blokes too.  Smiley

Mr Garner's ears will be burning (he's at http://www.renrag.co.uk by the way) you must let him know...  Yep it would be great to hear Kick again, another band like Freefall, who never quite made it off cassette and into the CD era.  Forward to the Water was of course their pièce-de-résistance and I recall them having a middle 8 somewhere where we would all sing "Wanna be like It Bites"... Smiley

Kick trivia: Barry, their built like a brick outhouse VanHalenesque guitarist went off to join British Lions a band that was managed by Steve Harris of Maiden and then they transformed into Dirty Deeds and put out a couple of albums. I think Mr Fuell was last seen in Norfolk/Suffolk writing brass band scores and Barry had a girlfriend who was a professional Princess Diana impersonator (not much call for that now though sadly).  How do I know this latter factoid?  Read it in Take a Break whilst waiting at the Docs some years ago.  Seriously.

Right, she's done Smiley

Went for a heavier feel, less of a remix, more of a reworking.  Dancing Queen didn't make the final cut.  Sorry... Wink

TBRS - JB Rework

Hope you like it! Huge thanks to the Tinyfish guys for their generosity in making the original files available.  Had a blast doing this and learnt a lot about REAPER in the process.

Cheers!

You've probably got that right sir.  I'm using Reaper and the "discover the bpm of this wav" is not wonderfully convincing.

Going to crack on with it shortly once the computer is clear of work so will have a go at 130.

Cheers!

Thanks Wilf,

I thought it might be 119(ish) but I'll give it a go!

Loving the work so far!  Still working on mine, about halfway done.

Need to know the exact BPM on TBRS please?? as I have to sync Dancing Queen with it and it's causing a bit of a problem...

Cheers
