May 22nd was awfully quiet, wasn't it?

I haven't had an h'orderve in years but now I quite fancy one.  Smiley

For reasons I can't begin to fathom I am reminded of something Simon said many moons ago. I think we were about 14 at the time...

"Is that Hortence?"

"No, she looks perfectly calm to me"

I know Stacy hates me for this but... NY Mets.

I have an unwritten rule: When I go to see a pro sport being payed for the first time I will support the home team and they will be the team I support in that sport forevermore. Hence the Toronto Maple Leafs, the New York Giants and the New York Mets.

I went to my first game at Shea Stadium to see the Mets play the Seattle Mariners back in 2004, taken there by my diehard Mets fan chum, Queens born and bred, Nick Kurihara.

Several of my other New York friends said I was mad and that I should go to the Yankees. But here's a thing I worked out for myself while working in NYC - the Yankees are for the tourists. They are the baseball equivalent of Manchester United. They are the go-to team for anyone who wants to appear to be into baseball but actually don't give much of one for it. They are the easy ride. And if you don't believe me, go to the Yankees store on 5th avenue - it has a Manchester United section at the back. I nearly threw up.

About time too.

Both of these have indeed made me go wow.

Not 'arf!

Saw Maiden with Clive Burr behind the kit on three occasions. What he lacked in technique he made up for in personality and heart. You could never mistake Clive Burr's drumming as anyone else's and for a drummer that's no mean feat. Shame.

His replacement (on a temporary basis at least) is likely to be Pete Harwood of Morpheus Rising.

Recommended. She looks like she's all Laura Ashley Print dresses and fluffy bunnies but when she plugs in that guitar... bloody hell!

Ritchie Kotzen is her favourite guitarist. THAT is all!

... and 'galloping' 4/4 Market Square Heroes rhythm.

Is now a good or bad time to point out that MSH is in 6/8, not 4/4?

Some of the episodes certainly feel that long.

Anyway, moving on...

Marillion - Radiation

An interesting album which features some really great tunes and some dodgy production. I've heard word that they're giving it a full remix / remaster next year to sort that out, which I'm looking forward to very much. It should really do the music more justice. A Few Words For The Dead is such a wonderful piece.

They are and I've heard some of it already and may I just say... BLOODDY HELL THAT SOUNDS BETTER!

I really love this album as it has some cracking choonz on it. The production was fine but some of the really nice produciton stuff got lost in the dreadful mix and, EQing and mastering. Mike Hunter is doing a cracking job. I've heard bits of the reworked Answering Machine and Few Words For the Dead and ... WOW!

I've got it on my mac and yes, it's pretty good. That said, you still need pretty good hearing in places to be able to differentiate between the bit you're trying to learn and everything else that might be going on, just as when listening and learning from something at full tilt.

It makes John Mitchell sound... strange.

Simon's Dad can now add another to his list.

Weirdly I was thinking about Clive Dunn only yesterday morning for reasons I can't even begin to fathom. I'm not suggesting there's some kind of "woooo... freaky, eh?" thing going on. After all, how many times a day do we think of people who don't die, don't suddenly call or turn up on our doorstep out of the blue? Hundreds, I'd say. It's no surprise then, that every so often we DO think of someone and then something DOES happen that taps into the human propensity for seeing patterns that aren't really there.

But I digress.

Clive Dunn. What a chap. He will be missed.

Don't congratulate me - it's like laughing at a naughty child and only encourages me.
