Make sure you stay hydrated while training - sounds like the TA guys who died over the weekend were doing the Fan Dance.

I think so.  I was speaking to someone last year who'd been through it.  They had to hike to a grid reference through the Beacons very quickly.  I'd guess to do that you'd need to cut down on weight, and carrying water is heavy.

On the trail on Tuesday I went over several hills of about 120m in very hot temperatures.  Everyone I spoke to the next day had the same story of running out of water in the heat.  And, of course, we were not against the clock.

Someone needs to ask about the wisdom of the Army doing this type of activity.

If you want them to perform under pressure then you have to train them to the same degree.  Others have died doing the Fan Dance before, it just managed to go under the radar.  No-one died the weekend before when the regular Regiment were doing their selection weekend.

It wasn't as hot the previous weekend.  I'm not saying that the Army shouldn't run this type of event.  What I am saying is that they need to be mindful of the weather conditions.

2 days on a course in the home of health food (ie. Barry, South Wales' premier fun town), and the weight has increased again. I took a week and a half to return to normal(-ish) last time.

Spent a very enjoyable time walking around parts of Paris today in very hot sun and most likely did not drink sufficient water while doing it. The views from the top of the Montparnasse Tower were stunning - high enough up to make La Tour Eiffel look tiny.

Just got back from my afternoon amble from Alton to Arlesford.  It included going right past the first house I lived in after leaving university, and the lovely villages of Chawton and Ropley.

It was wonderfully warm.  So much so that I decided to paddle across a ford rather than take the bridge.  The water was only about 5mm deep.  I didn't realise how slippery the road serface under the water was, and inevitably I ended up sitting in the stream.

 Cheesy

I went swimming in the sea and grazed my knee on a rock.  Obviously, there is a huge chance I may never walk again.
