In case anyone missed it, Panic Room are doing a kickstarter to raise funds to do an acoustic recording of some of their songs.

I saw that.  They must be planning to drink a lot of champagne if they need that much money.

8K is not an unreasonable amount of money to spend on an album at our level. Especially if you are planning on recording it in a studio.

The Big Red Spark cost 3.5K of actual put-your-hand-in-your-pocket money and we only recorded the drums in a studio.

From the money that they are taking, they have to pay to actually make and distribute the album and the other goodies on offer.  AMH is talking about taking profit back into the band as if making a profit is a bad thing.  I don't know what them all do, but I imaged that music is her only income source.

It is always useful to have target customers who actually have money, and so this kickstarter was successful.  Not as successful as Exploding Kittens, but good enough anyway.

It's not any of my business.  We also don't know what the deal is - it could be for new material.

Are they still signed to Esoteric ?

Their last album Incarnate wasn't released on Esoteric , the previous two albums Satellite and Skin were, so I think their deal with Esoteric is over. Incarnate was released on Firefly music.

That's interesting - I had lost track.  I just looked it up and they signed a 5 year deal at the beginning of 2012, so it must have been brought to an early end, which explains the kickstarter campaign.

Not all record deals are equal - perhaps they would be better with a different record company.

I wish that they were doing a live recording rather than doing it in a studio.
