You can't say Nick Clegg doesn't do anything - Cameron's arse won't lick itself, y'know!

And toast racks are expensive - we're all in this together, remember.

Well, they do say, you can be a popular Chancellor, or a good one.

In a bizarre universe twisting rip of the space/time continuum. Gordon Brown, the architect of what we're now all in together, got cheered. How soon some forget...

When Gideon decides to be one of those, perhaps he could let us know.

Seriously, ignoring policy, the man is a prize tool for whom there aren't enough hammers in the world.

Indeed.... the coalition asked us to judge them on their performance re  deficit reduction and economic recovery

Wonder what the pundits would make of their performance in the first half.....

Actually it was Reagan and Thatcher who are the real architects of this thing we're all in together. Gordon is culpable, but so are all of Dave and Gideon's mates in the financial sector who lied and cheated their way to fortunes while screwing over everyone else ave to shoulder a lot of the blame too. Just saying "you didn't regulate us" isn't an excuse for behaving like venal scumbuckets.

Not that I couldn't afford to pay back.

I was fortunate that I didn't have little financial acument and financial experts lying to me to get me to borrow money I couldn't possibly pay back as happened in the sub-prime market.

Nor have I ever sold anything to anyone by completely lying about its nature, deliberately lacing it with poison like securities traders did through the hole of the 2000s.

I'm not saying we don't have to have a system of caring for resources, nor that hard work and enterprise shouldn't be rewarded (the usual accusation arguments against the virulent greed of untrammelled capitalism face, as if that weern't a red herring), but surely we can all agree that whatever system we have it should be fair and not open to shysters stealing the resources of both rich and poor.

If we can't even agree that society should be fair (including fair rewards) then we can't even have the conversation. about what fair means.

Well, fair means what people want it to mean; usually, fair to them. There is no scientifically, universally adopted definition of "fair" Your definition of fair is probably entirely different to mine, but that would be because we have different outlooks, priorities etc etc. Not wrong, or right, just different.

It's not a secret that you and I disagree politically UB, but your world view is just that - your world view, not a set of absolute truths. If what you mean is that if I don't agree with your notional definition of what's fair, then I'm not permitted to join in or  debate it or suggest an alternative world view, then there seems very little point in having an exchange of views at all.

That's what I am saying - let's talk about what is fair, but start from the assumption that therir should be fairness - There is a lot in conservatism to admire, but the current shower seem to specifically reject fairness as a policy decision. I could go into detail but I have to sleep. I hope we can continue this civil and interesting discussion tomorrow.

Three topics that make places like this awkward; Politics, "Religion" and "Howe or Rabin".

I try to avoid all three...particularly in threads containing the word "smile" in the title. Smiley

What made me smile was LivingForever's Celebr8 Sunday write-up.
