My younger son was involved in an accident yesterday. He was on his bike; a car behind him was going much faster than he had expected it to be going (this was in a 40mph limit just about to rise to a 60 mph limit) and it hit him from behind as he was trying to signal to go right and starting to pull out. His bike is irreparable - wheels buckled; frame broken - and the car that hit him is a write-off - the roof is bent beyond repair and the windscreen was broken. He was taken to hospital in an ambulance, strapped to a spinal board with a neck collar.

Remarkably, his injuries are minor. A sprained ankle, some scrapes, lots of bruises. I cannot believe how he escaped worse injury. His bike helmet almost certainly saved his life - that is badly broken.

I am so glad and relieved he is OK.

I used to have a bigger sig but Robert kept moaning about it so I have been reduced to this now. Sad

Blimey! Sounds like his good sense saved his life! And yeah, bike helmets are only supposed to be used the once, basically. The minute they take any kind of impact, even if they don't break, you should get a new one.

We are so glad he is ok - we did a lot of cycling in France last week, and I am not sure I would try it over here...

Footage I shot was used on the bbc http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-29249815 there are 3 bits of video that I shot a few weeks ago and one other bit of older footage of tax discs being printed that I edited.

As well as that article my footage was used on BBC Breakfast news and the main BBC evening news
