Just as well I was nowhere near the internet on Friday night. I went to see Paradise 9 and got utterly slaughtered on Wells Banana Bread Beer. Good gig though. I can recommend the (utterly non-prog) Boicotts, a mad Japanese pop band. I was sober at the point I saw them. And Paradise 9 covered "The Right Stuff" by Robert Calvert.

I saw the late great Robert Calvert at a gig he did at the Queen Elizabeth Hall in 1986, with Dead Fred and Pstupid Steve from ICU. Almost exactly 23 years ago, it was. November 3rd.

I used to have a bigger sig but Robert kept moaning about it so I have been reduced to this now. Sad

I went to see the Steve Reich concert at the Festival Hall on Saturday and was completely mesmerised, particularly by the sublime "Music for 18 Musicians"

Each individual instrument repeating phrases, yet weaving this apparently mechanical procedure into a hypnotic soundscape.

WOW!

Words cannot describe how jealous I feel for you hearing "Music for 18 Musicians" live. That's an amazing piece of music.

Should I add that Steve Reich himself was one of the 18 musicians, and also was one of the "clappers" in the short piece "Clapping Music" oh and the first half also had "Electric Counterpoint" in it.

Have you exploded/melted yet?
