Number one son (5) chasing number 2 son (nearly 2) up and down the hallway shouting, "I've got a penguin and I'm not afraid to use it". This is the only reason to have children.

Murky buckets, my good sir.
A monkey and a duck bearing my birthday gifts made me smile today.

I have just watched an excellent show on BBC Four called "Comedy Songs: The Pop Years". As the blurb says the documentary traces the modern history of the comedy pop song from the birth of the charts in 1952 to its reinvention in the new millennium. It was hilarious. My favorite was Corky & The Juice Pigs and their "I'm The Only Gay Eskimo". http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=bid9KsuxECA

I had an interesting conversation at work today. One of my colleagues, Robert, approached me and asked "have you heard of Peter Gabriel?". I looked blankly - Robert doesn't like any music written before about 1850 (the year, not the hour). Noting my blank look, he elaborated - "He was in a group called - errr - 'Genesis' apparently". Wondering if Robert has a sudden impulse to explore modern music - well 1970s - anyway, I enquired further. It seems that Robert has been invited to PG's house for drinks because he lives in the same square, and PG has invited everyone in the square. What a waste - Robert will never appreciate he is talking to a prog legend. It should be me!

Am I allowed to mention that what made me smile was Steven Wilson signing my copy of Insurgentes (limited edition book version type thing) after the Aviv Geffen gig last night ?
Where's the smug smiley ?
